1.The majority of Canadian CEOs (59%), along with their global counterparts, also have growing concerns regarding the impact of protectionism across the globe.  Meanwhile the speed of technological change and its threat to growth seems to be less of a concern for Canadian leaders . When it comes to the drivers of growth and profitability, Canadian CEOs rank new strategic alliances and joint ventures , collaboration with entrepreneurs and start-ups and outsourcing as important enablers of growth.

“It is a fairly optimistic outlook held by Canadian CEOs, in spite of increased uncertainty,” said Bill McFarland, CEO, PwC Canada. “One concern is that this uncertainty may reinforce our already conservative business culture. There may be a tendency to be more risk averse as Canadians, along with many of their global counterparts, wait to see what changes in the new U.S. government, China and the Eurozone will bring in an increasingly disrupted market. Canadian business leaders must continue to look beyond the U.S. for growth and create alliances and forge partnerships in order to tap into new talent, ideas and markets while allowing us to manage risk and drive accelerated innovation.”

2.The past decade has seen a significant increase in investment in Australia. Public investment has lifted relative to GDP, while real private investment has averaged 8% growth per annum over the decade to 2009-10, easily outstripping the growth in real GDP. While the surge in private investment over the decade has largely been driven by mining, liquefied natural gas (LNG) is the current wonder child. By value some 55% of all resources projects in Deloitte Access Economics’ Investment Monitor database at present – the primary data source for this report – are LNG projects. Outside of LNG, resource projects underway are led very much by iron ore projects in Western Australia.

Majority of the CEOs across the globe and especially in Canada have decided to be more risk averse and are looking beyond US for growth through means of global alliance and strategic partnerships to tap ideas, talents and markets, and also driving growth and profitability through innovation thus keeping a fairly optimistic outlook in spite of the uncertainty around.

    According to reports based on findings in Deloitte Access Economics Investment Monitor database, 55% of current resource projects in Australia are liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects and these LNG projects are driving the surge in private investment as compared to public investment which was once driven by mining thus showing a significant increase in investment over the past decade.
