PTE Academic writing sample essay people dependency on motor cars

dependency on motor cars

As people become increasingly more dependent on motor cars, the public transport systems tend to run down. This has serious consequences for both existing community and new communities, which are spreading farther and farther from town centres. Express your opinion, and support the same with reasons and examples.

The car and the powerful engine that supports it gives us the impression of speed and convenience. Seldom do we take our thoughts to the exhausts, which puff out millions of toxic and polluting particles taking the toll of toxic gases higher every second. In most of the big cities of the world, the pollution level is higher than the safe limits. This increase can be directly attributed to vehicular traffic on roads and to industrial emissions. Because of the convenience of personal conveyance and the lack of space within the city, the suburban areas have kept expanding outwards. The trunk roads to and from the city are clogged particularly during office rush hours in the morning and in the evening. So we can attribute the congestion and air pollution in the cities to the vehicular traffic. Because of this congestion, the ‘car’ traffic moves at extremely slow speeds, which increases both the commuting time and the pollution levels. On the other hand, the public transport system remains under-utilized and also suffers the impact of the congestion caused by the ‘car traffic’.

Every vehicle, the public and the private, get delayed and commuting time increases manifold. Yet there are ways to help the situation. If only there could be separate lanes for public transport, it would deliver better speed and make car driving less attractive. The city rail, using different routes than the trunk roads, could be another good option. The whole purpose is to make the public transport speedier than the ‘car’. This, in turn, will reduce the congestion, the pollution and help reduce commuting times.

Companies can progress by good communion, the collaboration between the employers and staff. Good incentives, individualistic approach, recognition and a pat on the back for the successful completion of a project can enhance the enthusiasm and can lead the company to visionary targets and goals. Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with this statement. Support your point of view with reasons and/or examples from your experiences and observations.

  1. Undoubtedly , one of the debatable issue that is taking toll on lives of people is the traffic . This has some major adverse effects which have been explained here under.

With the burgeoning population there seems to be a major dependency on private vehicles compared to public transport. This is because cars have become comparatively cheaper nowadays. Furthermore, the purchasing power of people have risen dramatically which leaves them commuting in their own vehicles. The city roads are congested with unnecessary traffic snarling which can bring havoc in the lives of people. It has ill effects of pollution and moreover, bringing an illogical pressure on driver’s seat. With today’s busy lives, where a man is already surviving the cut throat competition, he has to deal with a long congested roads makes him more irritable and stressful.
The government should take initiative in making the public transport more frequently available before the traffic congestion become dreadful. Moreover, it should take some serious steps on controlling the traffic congestion by laying the toll rents on city’s some busiest roads. To exemplify, in Ontario the government has tolled a busiest highway with a charge of $22 per side per vehicle and it has led to an immense reduction in traffic snarling. In adidition to this, commuting to and fro with the same amount of traffic everyday makes hard for people to maintaining work life balance. The convenient public transport system will be more accommodating for them as they will get to meet and interact with new kind of people .This will effect in their changing moods and ultimately to their health.

My belief is that city traffic is a warranted issue and it needs addressal . The government should make serious efforts on controlling it otherwise it can turn around a city into a devastating land.
