Types of essays In PTE exam

You will have to write/type an essay on a given topic which consists of 200-250 words in 20 minutes. There are two main types of essays asked in the PTE exam; argumentive essay & descriptive essay. Remember, there is no right or wrong in terms of content when you write an essay. So be free with expressing your thoughts and personal opinions on the topic.

PTE essay structure

It is very important to plan your essay before writing it down. The words you required to write is 200-
280. I recommend dividing your essay into four different paragraphs. That does not mean that each
paragraph has to be of the same length. The paragraph needs to have a logical structure. That is why I advise
starting with the introduction. Introduce the topic & describe your take on the topic in the introduction
itself. Writing the introduction in 30-50 words is sufficient.

The second paragraph would be regarding argument one. The second paragraph should be revolving around your take on the topic. If you are with the essay then argue for it & if you are against the essay argue against it. Describe every thought & example that you have to prove your point in the second paragraph. This should be the biggest paragraph of your essay. The length of this paragraph should at least 100 words.

The third paragraph will be of counter-argument. Suppose if you are against the topic, you have to write why you are not with the topic in this paragraph. 30-40 words are reasonably good to write this paragraph.

The last paragraph would be conclusive. Compare the argument made in paragraph two & three & conclude the topic well. The length of the paragraph should be 30-50 words.
